The duty of the Bylaws Commission is to recommend changes in the Bylaws and present the amendments appropriate to this purpose. In presenting amendments to the Annual Assembly, the commission makes recommendations for or against the proposed amendments.

Objectives: To keep the organic laws of the South Carolina Chapter, AAFP, updated and effective for the organization at all times and to integrate them with the laws and regulations of the AAFP.

It is the responsibility of the Finance Commission to supervise the accounting activities of the treasury. To arrange for an annual audit of the books and to prepare an annual budget with recommendations for the consideration and approval of the Board of Directors.

Objectives: To maintain the South Carolina Academy of Family Physicians in a strong and secure financial position. It should anticipate a gradual acquisition of adequate reserve funds. Being mindful of the laws which non-profit organizations must consider.

This commission works to recruit and retain SCAFP association members, promote the value of membership in the organization, initiate and coordinate new and extended member services, address life-stage and career stage issues and address other issues related to membership and member services.

It shall be the duty of this Commission to represent the Academy in its relationships with voluntary health agencies and other agencies and institutions concerned with the public health, medical services, epidemiology and the social aspects of medicine not falling within the purview of other commissions of the Academy. The Commission recommends to the Board of Directors policies and projects which will reflect the philosophy of family medicine in its relation with such agencies and institutions. The Commission will inform the membership of important public health issues in the state and recommend to the Board of Directors actions to improve education of physicians and the public.

The Commission on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusiveness (CDEI-FM) leverages diversity, equity, inclusiveness and antiracism lenses to inform and guide the Academy’s recommendations, policies and work addressing disparities in care, health and workforce. The goals of the commission are to inform, develop, promote and evaluate recommendations, policies and procedures that promote health equity, reduce health disparities and foster inclusive person-centered care across a wide range of topics including but not limited to:

Underrepresented in Medicine (URIM)

Gender

LGBTQ+

Ability (including physician ability)

Workforce Diversity

Health Equity / Social Justice

Anti-racism in medicine
